Sunday, September 13, 2009

The 2009 US Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen saw an incredible array of some of the most exceptional racecars and drivers competing in recent history. And despite the storied marquees represented, including numerous light-weight, high-horsepower McLarens and Lola’s, Superformance is proud to announce that the GT40/R won in its class in both the Grand Prix event and the prestigious New York Governor’s Cup Race.

Many months of hard work went into engineering and developing the GT40/R to be an authentic and capable vintage racer. The Race preparations were done by Olthoff Racing and it was raced with Dennis Olthoff driving. The British Racing Green GT40/R with its distinguishable Yellow stripes crossed the finish line to a thunderous applause from Superformance fans. Dennis Olthoff managed a spectacular time in each of his events, with a fast lap time of 2:07.924 in his Governor’s Cup Race. Wow!

Well, at Watkins Glen there were two races and two wins, which is one hell of a great test! Many thanks go to Dennis and his team back at Olthoff Racing, as well as Lance Stander and the folks at Superformance, Hi-Tech, and Pathfinder Motorsports who have all worked tirelessly to produce the most exciting racecar in almost 50 years: The GT40/R. And special thanks to Holman Moody for their hand-built engine that, like the originals in the mid-60’s, came through in the end. Now it’s on to Daytona, Sebring, and the future.”
